Rule Updates & Clarifications - 11/10/09
-Players may not review stats until after the game has finished and teams have shaken hands.
-If the ball hits the ceiling at any time, it is out of bounds.
-If the ball goes over the top of the backboard, it is out of bounds.
-We are playing with high school/college traveling rules - not NBA rules.
-The clock should only stop at the end of halfs on dead balls, not on made baskets.
-During periods where the clock is stopped on dead balls, the inbounding team must pass the ball in within 5 seconds. In order to call a violation, the opposing team must count out loud using the One-One Thousand, Two-One Thousand method. Please only do this if you feel you need to.
-On free throws, the defense should occupy the block closest to the baseline
Attendance/Responsibilities/Devotions
*Please be ready for devotions 20 minutes prior to your game. If you play at 6:30, please be ready at 6:10; 7:40 if you play at 8:00.
*If you are not able to be at the gym on time for devotions and/or your team's responsibilities, you must contact your captain ahead of time. Last minute emergency situation will obviously be handled separately.
*Playing-time penalties will result from unannounced absence of devotions and/or team responsibilities.
Registration/Payment
*You must pay your playing fee on or before Tip-Off Night. If you cannot make it to Tip-Off Night, you must pay your captain before your first game.
*You will not be allowed to play or get your jersey until payment is made.
*If payment is not made by the end of Week 3, your playing fee will be increased by $10.
*If you do not pay at all, you will not be able to play next season.
Rules of Conduct (Be the Bigger Man)
*FIRST AND FOREMOST: Go to your team captain if you have problems with another player or team. DO NOT argue with the player/team.
*No swearing or other bad language
*No fighting or arguing
*Make sensible calls on fouls and other penalties.
*Respect fouls called against you. Don't argue.
*Willingly sub in and out; don't always wait to be asked (applies to everyone)
*Distribute the basketball. Even if you are the best player on your team, share the ball. Don't shoot every single time down the floor.
*The Commissioner will deal with continual issues by individual players or teams.
Procedural Rules
*Teams must have a minimum of four players to start the game (if not, your team forfeits) – there is a 5 minute grace period if needed.
*Fill-ins from other teams or non-HHBM players will NOT be allowed at anytime.
*You must have a minimum of four players for tournament games as well. If not, you will forfeit.
*Once league registration closes, people outside of the league are not allowed to play, substitute, or fill-in, unless given permission by the Commissioner.
*Home team is the first team listed on the schedule; Away teams are the second team on the schedule. Home and Away only pertains to jersey color (below).
*Coin flip: Team that wins the coin flip chooses whether or not to take the ball first or choose their side first.
*Alternate possession and sides in the 2nd half, and again for each overtime period.
*Fill-ins from other teams or non-HHBM players will NOT be allowed at anytime.

Jerseys
*Home team wears the dark red side of the jersey; Away team wears the white side of the jersey. Home team is the first team listed on the schedule; Away teams are the second team on the schedule.
*If you do not have your jersey, please wear an appropriate color t-shirt, based on the schedule (Red or White)
Gameplay Rules
*28 min. halves
*Running clock until last 3 min. of each half. With 3 min. left, clock stops on fouls and dead balls. The clock should only stop at the end of halfs on dead balls, not on made baskets.
*During periods where the clock is stopped on dead balls, the inbounding team must pass the ball in within 5 seconds. In order to call a violation, the opposing team must count out loud using the One-One Thousand, Two-One Thousand method. Please only do this if you feel you need to.
*If a team is up by 25 points with 3 min. left in the first half, the clock will staying running for the duration of the half.
*If a team is up by 30 points with 3 min. left in the second half, the clock will staying running for the duration of the half (intentional fouls will not be valid at this point), unless the score is brought back to within 15 points. At that point, the clock will stop on all fouls or dead balls for the remainder of the half.
*3 minute half-time
*Play by 2's and 3's. There are no 3's along the sideline that runs tight to the wall.
*We are playing with high school/college traveling rules - not NBA rules.
*Walls on the sides are out. Black baselines are out.
*Ball hitting top of the backboard is out. Sides are in.
*Ball hitting any of the backboard fixtures, or the back of the backboard, is out.
*If the ball hits the ceiling at any time, it is out of bounds.
*If the ball goes over the top of the backboard, it is out of bounds.
*If the ball goes out of bounds on the sidelines, or on your scoring end, check the ball at half-court.
*If the ball goes out of bounds on the baseline that you are defending, you can pass the ball in from that baseline.
Substitutions
*You may only substitute on dead balls or fouls. DO NOT substitute after a made basket, on either end.
*Scorekeepers should hit the buzzer when subs are entering the game.
Fouls
*Intentionally fouling during the course of a game, before the last minute, is illegal. If it persists, penalties will be handed down at the discretion of the Commissioner.
*You must be going for the ball when a foul occurs.
*If fouled, check the ball at half-court.
*Flagrant fouls will definitely not be tolerated. These will also be dealt with harshly. Captains are to pull a player immediately, who does this.
Intentional Fouls
*With 1 minute left, you may intentionally foul. You must yell "Intentional!" for it to be recognized.
*If you simply foul someone, without declaring, it will act as a normal foul (unless you are purposefully fouling without going for the ball – this is illegal, and will need to be handled by each captain).
*The person with the ball must have clear control when you foul him. If the ball has left his hands before you make contact, it is not a valid intentional foul (does not count as an off-the-ball foul)
*If intentionally fouled, the fouled players gets a 1-and-1 free throw opportunity
*Ball must hit the rim before anyone can enter the lane
Time-Outs
*Your team has two 30 second time-outs that can be used in either regulation or overtime.
*Each team receives one additional time-out for use in overtime.
* You MUST possess the ball to use a Time-Out.
*The above rule DOES NOT apply to injury situations. Injury Time-Outs will stop the clock, and will not be charged to either team. Scorekeeper needs to call "Injury Time-Out", and stop the clock.
Overtime
*Overtime is 5 minutes, running clock.
*Intentional fouls are permitted in Overtime with thirty seconds remaining. Follow the Intentional Foul procedures as stated above.
*Each team receives one additional time-out for use in overtime.
